Competition area is surounded by industrial buildings within the enclosed city block, and therefore lacks potential in terms of viewability, from, within and through the new Sports Center. As a result, an introverted layout is proposed, with facade layer and its reduced formal character, defined by unique, undivided interior space, towards wich all the required facilities of the building gravitate.
Aleksandra Dupčeka street, as a main approaching vector, continues through the inside of the Center, in form of linear Atrium, thus creating an uninterrupted, animated access to the Center, and merging the exterior and interior. Atrium acts as a main lobby, running the full height of the building. It's characterized with natural zenital lighting, noticable spatial readability and overview of all buildings facilities throughout all floorplans. The main Court with its stands is seperated from the Atrium with light glass screen. Since all other faces of Atrium are transparent as well, whole volume of Court and Atrium is viewable from almost every point of Centers auxilliary facilities, secondary public, sports and recreational spaces. Core of Center, in this manner, encompasses main and secondary stage, arena, main event, meeting and passing place, all at the same time, depending from the viewers current position. With its translucency, openness and large volume, the Center enables all the activities within to observe each other, generating a sequence of new ways to use, interact and connect within, and therefore making new events possible. As a result, the whole Center becomes an unique, undivided ensambe, with every event both defined by, and defining the rest.
